Pod logs

– Start log: Sunday, October 28, 2007 6:53:20 pm LC_MOO time –

Ian[213] walks into the room and down a couple of steps.

Simon[213] says, “evening”

Ian[213] drops 1028.

>> A red light on the 1028 flashes to indicate that it has been turned on and is now recording everything that is being said in Bulga FernGully <<

Ian[213] says, “Ah-Harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!”

Ian[213] says, “G’devening!”

Ian[213] says, “A pirates treasure chest bet “O” forgot about the daylight saving :)

Simon[213] says, “haha was just wondering that myself”

Simon[213] says, “lets give him a few to see if he shows”

Simon[213] says, “brb  need coffee”

Ian[213] says, “bring a chest of treasure with you too :)

Simon[213] says, “back”

Simon[213] says, “cup of coffee is close enough to treasure”

Simon[213] says, “hmmm he on msn?”

Ian[213] says, “chased him down on MSN. My guess was coorect”

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Simon[213] says, “he forgot the time change?”

Omid arrives.

Omid leaves for LC_MOO Welcome Lobby

Omid arrives from LC_MOO Welcome Lobby

Simon[213] says, “welcome to day light savings Omid”

Omid says, “Hi”

Omid says, “hehe yeah I just remember about it”

Ian[213] says, “Hi”

Ian[213] says, “So Omid, you wanna take us through POD task 3?”

Omid says, “Yea”

Omid says, “Another 2 hrs I’ll email it 2 you”

Omid says, “I’m just working on last question”

Ian[213] says, “So you did the Blogging bit?”

Omid says, “from memory I did it”

Omid says, “but simon showed me a simple way”

Simon[213] says, “which ways that?”

Omid says, “Like the way I did it iz right”

Omid says, “but there is a simple way in which others can understand”

Omid says, “No right or wrong just structure layout is different”

Simon[213] says, “ahh”

Omid says, “It’s posted there”

Omid says, “Simon did see it before”

Simon[213] says, “do u have a link to where its posted?”

Omid says, “http://ispg.csu.edu.au/moodle/blog/index.php?userid=71)

Simon[213] says, “Ok so thats 3 and 4 correct?”

Ian[213] says, “er, what is that?”

Omid says, “what you mean?”

Ian[213] says, “it looks like a copy of exercise questions?”

Simon[213] says, “Dosnt he mean copies of your answers to any 3?”

Omid says, “yea said choose any ORL exercises and add them as test entires”

Omid says, “I just posted the questions”

Omid says, “However….”

Omid says, “It says to duplicate it but I can’t access CSU interact”

Omid says, “Keeping in mind I’ve only got moodle access”

Simon[213] says, “What about part 5?”

Ian[213] says, “Ditto”

Omid says, “Part 5?”

Ian[213] says, “The one that come after “4″”

Simon[213] says, “5. Each POD group should collate a Blog report into a single POD group report and post it onto the CSU PODs sub-forum. [Organise a time when members of your POD group can meet and do this step].”

Omid says, “basically we collate our pod work into one”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, I have a suggestion … we could, like, do that step now? (???)”

Omid says, “ok”

Ian[213] says, “First …”

Ian[213] says, “lets clarify “POD report” …”

Simon[213] says, “yeah thats what i was going to say”

Simon[213] says, “What exactly is he after?”

Simon[213] says, “a report on teh blogging tools is my guess”

Ian[213] says, “Anybody has a suggestion on whether the report is regarding the Blog entries or the Blog functionality (in MOO vs Interact)?”

Ian[213] says, “I feel it is the latter (i.e. blog functionality) …”

Ian[213] says, “because we could (and did) make completely differnt blog entries.”

Simon[213] says, “well and number 1 says “1. Examine the Blog and wiki tools at the ISPG MOODLE http://ispg.csu.edu.au/moodle/ and Sakai (CSU Interact) http://interactsws.csu.edu.au/portal“”

Simon[213] says, “so to me its a report on what you found”

Ian[213] says, “What do you want to do Omid?”

Ian[213] (drum roll)

Ian[213] says, “Omid? You there?”

Omid says, “Send me your responce about the tools”

Omid says, “I’ll put them together and post it 2 csu sub forum”

Ian[213] says, “Okay. We’ll send comments through via MOO as part of discussing this.”

Omid says, “It doesn’t say it needs to be discussed through moo”

Omid says, “either way moo or email”

Omid says, “Whateva makes your task easier”

Ian[213] says, “CSU Interact & frankly, I found this Blog tool to be hard to use.  I cant seem to add the requisite three entries.  Just one is appearing.  Functionally it seems to attempt/support more capability andmore structure in the content (titles, absract, body, tags, etc) but since I cant publish some entries that seems of little use.  Perhaps there is a limit to the number of entries I can submit and reached that limit & but if so surely it would notify me in some way. “

Simon[213] says, “Did you try clicking on new post?”

Ian[213] says, “Yes, but after hitting save it doesn’t appear :(

Simon[213] says, “Because I have 4 posts on mine as tests”

Simon[213] says, “that i just made then”

Simon[213] says, “Oh weird”

Simon[213] says, “The body does not appear for them”

Ian[213] says, “Me suspects there are some funny (illegal) character in my pasted copy which causes it to have side-effects.”

Ian[213] says, “But I didn’t have those problems with Moodle’s blog tool.”

Simon[213] says, “I tried it witht eh words “test body” and the body did not appear”

Simon[213] says, “It might be permissions on the site.”

Simon[213] says, “ok heres mine for interact”

Simon[213] says, “Interact”

Simon[213] says, “bah”

Simon[213] says, “stupid moo”

Simon[213] says, “Let me do moodle then I will email em to you both”

Simon[213] says, “Ok sent via email”

Ian[213] says, “Nice. I like the bit about Tags …”

Ian[213] says, “probably worth adding (Omid) that the appearance of the Tag Cloud within Moodle is very good.  Didn’t see equivalent in Interact.”

Simon[213] says, “Ah yeah the tag cloud was different”

Ian[213] says, “I believe the the font size and boldness increase to reflect the higher number of uses of the Tag.”

Simon[213] says, “so more active topics are bolder”

Simon[213] says, “?”

Ian[213] says, “I believe so.”

Ian[213] says, “I suspect this is a “de-facto” view on most social computing site where Tagging is in use.”

Simon[213] says, “Yeah im kinda supprised to see it on moodle”

Ian[213] says, “Maybe its there on Interact but Hop hasn’t gotten round to configuring it yet …”

Ian[213] says, “Wouldn’t wanna roll up the sleeves in the Interact sys config documentation to find that one out though!”

Ian[213] (RTFB?) :)

Simon[213] says, “Well interact seems more formal then moodle”

Simon[213] says, “so it might not have it”

Ian[213] says, “I just a click around in Interact.  I can’t see where they’d cram one in either (although, sure ther’d be a way).”

Ian[213] says, “I found Moodle blog easier to use because the options, buttons seemed better placed.  Could actually get my entries published with least fuss.”

Ian[213] says, “Hey! Somebody made a comment way earlier in the course that “all blog tools are the same”…”

Ian[213] says, “It was a bit of a conversation stopper at the time…”

Ian[213] says, “But in retrospect now I have to say …”

Simon[213] says, “Well they appear on the surface the same”

Simon[213] says, “title, tags, body abstract”

Ian[213] says, “I’m seeing quite a bit of difference …”

Simon[213] says, “Such as?”

Ian[213] says, “If I’d have had to do this course using Interact or Moodle i wouldn’t have found it as compelling to keep an active blog …”

Ian[213] says, “as I did with wordpress : due to it being so much easier to use. “

Ian[213] says, “Instead I could put an RSS feed of my blog into the Interact or Moodle.”

Simon[213] says, “Does interact or moddle all you to input an rss feed tho?”

Ian[213] says, “After a quick click around … doesn’t look like it.”

Ian[213] says, “So, Omid, there’s a suggestion: instead of having Blogging functionality allow the aggregation of blogs using RSS. :)

Ian[213] says, “You still there?”

Omid says, “Yea you guys been awesome”

Ian[213] says, “… That way both platforms can leverage the best of breed wiki’s on the outside world.   But …”

Ian[213] says, “(sorry meant blog, not wiki).  But … big drawback: …”

Simon[213] says, “so these are almost blog lite “

Ian[213] says, “it measn that blog content would be publicly accessible as well. Whereas the hosted Blog would be private to the group.”

Ian[213] says, “I just them to be rather “blog hard”.”

Ian[213] says, “But you’re right …”

Ian[213] says, “They can’t be expected to be as good as the leading web blog sites.”

Simon[213] says, “So its almost like a message board”

Simon[213] says, “rather then a blog”

Simon[213] says, “would you say?”

Ian[213] thinking

Ian[213] says, “It comes across that way doesn’t it?”

Simon[213] says, “appears so”

Ian[213] says, “I think we covered Blogging!”

Simon[213] says, “indeed”

Simon[213] says, “got all that omid?”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, you okay to compile the report of comment and submit to the Forum?”

Ian[213] says, “(the CSU PODs sub-forum)”

Omid says, “Yea sure”

Omid says, “Just 2 double check whats the CSU pods sub forum link”

Omid says, “Better 2 be safe than sorry”

Ian[213] says, “http://forums.csu.edu.au/perl/forums.pl?forum_id=ITC213_200770_x_x_Sub1_forum&task=frameset

Simon[213] says, “brb”

Omid says, “Thanks I’ll do that asap”

Simon[213] says, “carry on while i run and do this fast”

Omid says, “Will be posted tonight”

Omid says, “With question 6 I onwards its getting tricky for mw”

Omid says, “me”

Omid says, “I don’t have access in interact”

Omid says, “I can do it but….”

Omid says, “Just worried I won’t be able to supply enough information”

Omid says, “I gotta go soon”

Simon[213] says, “back”

Simon[213] says, “for 6 do we just use one persons essay?”

Omid says, “Who’s essay?”

Simon[213] says, “from assignment 1?”

Simon[213] says, “er from assignment 1″

Omid says, “but whos essay we going to use?”

Simon[213] says, “6. Using your essay on social computing developers from assignment 1, use the wiki tool at the MOODLE and Interact sites to build and edit a larger group essay on the same topic in each wiki.”

Omid says, “from assignment 1″

Simon[213] says, “well thats what im not sure if we do one each or jsut pick one persons.”

Simon[213] says, “Ian thoughts?”

Ian[213] ian back …

Ian[213] baby duty for a few mins ..

Ian[213] says, “How about use this one: …”

Ian[213] says, “http://ispg.csu.edu.au/moodle/mod/wiki/view.php?id=5&page=view/POD4

Ian[213] says, “just update it during the week when you’re ready/have time.”

Ian[213] says, “I.e. to work in any extra info he have from you assignment 1 essays.”

Simon[213] says, “Sounds good as its already there”

Simon[213] says, “soo that should cover the wiki part”

Omid says, “I’ll do wiki part”

Ian[213] says, “EUREKA MOMENT!”

Omid says, “hey guys I gotta go my sister needs my computer for while”

Omid says, “I know whats required”

Omid says, “It will be edited/posted tonight”

Ian[213] says, “Anyhthing else required for atsk 4?”

Ian[213] says, “I beleive 4 is done.”

Omid says, “Task 4 is done”

Omid says, “But before I go”

Omid says, “How you guys finding the essay aprt?”

Omid says, “*part”

Simon[213] says, “Where did he want pod 4 posted?”

Omid says, “Forms A and B are attached postings in the ITC213 PODs sub forum”

Omid says, “Umm he didn’t say”

Omid says, “I’m thinking possibly our zope folder”

Simon[213] says, “im getting a session error”

Ian[213] says, “I think somebody already provided URL to the “All Groups Form B” on Moodle.”

Simon[213] says, “can someone paste it here please?”

Ian[213] says, “here: http://forums.csu.edu.au/perl/forums.pl?forum_id=ITC213_200770_x_x_Sub1_forum&task=frameset

Omid says, “Guys I really got 2 go now”

Ian[213] says, “that’s the forum message, which explains, and provides a link to the actual location.”

Omid says, “I’ll leave the browser open for moo if while my sister uses my computer”

Omid says, “Will keep in touch guys”

Omid says, “Bye from here”

Simon[213] says, “later man”

Ian[213] ian back from baby duty …

Ian[213] needs to get in the hang of the “brb” thang.

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] says, “Hey, I think we’re all done with POD task 3 and 4?”

Ian[213] says, “brb”

Simon[213] says, “hmm i think we might be”

Ian[213] says, “Back!”

Ian[213] says, “Having a rough nite with the little fella.”

Ian[213] says, “We’re all down with a bug.”

Ian[213] says, “Hey, did you install Vuze yet?”

Ian[213] says, “stop 1028″

>> The red light on 1028 goes out. The recorder in Bulga FernGully has been turned off. <<

Ian[213] takes 1028.

Ian[213] says, “Vuze transfers content faster than P2P clients.  The DJ Mode ‘erotic dreams’ is nice.”

Ian[213] says, “test”

Ian[213] (asleep) has disconnected.

Simon[213] says, “back”

Ian[213] big wave hello and a belly Ah-Haarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Ian[213] wonders if “O” will join Simon[213] says, “i didnt get any emails back from him did u?”

Ian[213] sips at milo, glows after a day in the sun, subsconciously listens to High5 music in the background (bad influence) Ian[213] says, “Got one saying he still doesn’t have access to Interact …”

Ian[213] says, “no indictation whether he’ll join tonight buut having read and replied to the email he’s aware of the date/time so we can but …”

Ian[213] says, “see what happens next …”

Ian[213] says, “not sure if it makes a different (even if he says he’ll arrive :)

Simon[213] says, “haha true”

Simon[213] says, “hmm just browsing some of these questions”

Ian[213] says, “me too, just bringing up Form A”

Simon[213] says, “wheres form a?”

Simon[213] says, “on the forums?”

Omid arrives.

Omid [to Hey]: guys I will be back in 15 mins Omid says, “hey guys be back in 15 mins”

Ian[213] says, “OMG! Omid!”

Ian[213] says, “Come back come back!”

Omid says, “Is that alright with you guys?”

Ian[213] says, “Form A is available on the sub-forum”

Ian[213] says, “And this is probably the focus of 50% of our work? http://interactsws.csu.edu.au/portal/help/main

Ian[213] says, “(Omid, I suspect you’ll not be able to access that)”

Omid says, “Yea your right”

Omid says, “I can’t access it”

Omid says, “I spoke to hopper and he understands the situations”

Omid says, “I’ve tried everything even spoke to hopper and other members”

Omid says, “Still no success”

Simon[213] says, “where does it say what we evaluate?”

Ian[213] says, “We (POD4) do the last evaluation listed in Form A (Help & Documentation)”

Omid says, “Be back soon”

Ian[213] says, “(of Sakai and Interact)”

Ian[213] says, “In the “look” view of MOO you should see “POD task 4″, click that and all the instructions are in there.”

Simon[213] says, “oh dur it was in the title”

Simon[213] says, “lol i was looking in the text”

Ian[213] says, “Got me all this while too!”

Ian[213] says, “I been looking through the text wondering if i have the wrong end of the stick (again) :)

Ian[213] says, “Hey Omid, since you can’t access Interact … can you tell us where the Help and Documentation is in Moodle?   URLs would be good.”

Simon[213] says, “They coulda atleast made this form have check boxes”

Ian[213] bummer!

Ian[213] says, “I say 10.1 is N/A.”

Simon[213] says, “agreed”

Simon[213] says, “10.2 Yes”

Simon[213] says, “10.3 yes”

Ian[213] says, “FYI, our results go in here: http://ispg.csu.edu.au/moodle/mod/wiki/view.php?id=5&page=CLICK+HERE

Simon[213] says, “cool”

Simon[213] says, “lets compile them first thats going to take the longest”

Ian[213] says, “need to break answer down per platform (1=Moodle, 2=Interact)”

Simon[213] says, “do interact first while were waiting for O”

Simon[213] says, “thats the ones i been answering anyway”

Ian[213] says, “yes. let’s do that. race you (should be 10-15mins?)”

Simon[213] says, “or u just wanna spit em out in here?”

Simon[213] says, “that way if we get stuck we can deal as we get to it”

Omid says, “Back guys”

Omid says, “fill me in”

Ian[213] says, “10.4     1. N  no alt text    2. Y (sometimes alt text)”

Simon[213] says, “none”

Ian[213] says, “you mean N/A (as in, their not ambiguous)”

Simon[213] says, “well theres no alt text for the options on the left”

Simon[213] says, “explaining what they are”

Ian[213] says, “in interact there’s sometimes Alt Text on the main body options”

Ian[213] says, “SORRY, in Moddle, not Interact”

Simon[213] says, “so thats a no for interact”

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] phew

Ian[213] says, “10.5 …”

Ian[213] says, “1. N”

Ian[213] says, “2. N”

Ian[213] says, “(But pages and forms are sufficiently self explanatory)”

Ian[213] says, “10.6 … Dejavu!  Pass.”

Simon[213] says, “10.6 items have a more detailed explination”

Simon[213] says, “when u click on them in the support center”

Ian[213] says, “I don’t understand”

Ian[213] says, “(BTW, we’re half way through :)

Simon[213] says, “When you select one of the help options tehres a detailed explination of what the section is about”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, how you going with Moodle eval?”

Simon[213] says, “so i had 10.6 as yes”

Ian[213] says, “Ah! I see.  And you have Interact as Yes, Moodle as No?”

Omid says, “I’m in the process now for moodle”

Omid says, “just finding it difficult finding help and documentation”

Omid says, “for moodle, of course”

Ian[213] says, “R U Sure?”

Simon[213] says, “no just interact. wernt we doing one at a time?”

Omid says, “I can’t access interact”

Ian[213] says, “10.7   1. N   2. N

Omid says, “just to make sure you guys doing form A or B?”

Ian[213] says, “No memory aids in either.  Clicks are primary and only means of NAV.”

Ian[213] says, “(Form A)”

Simon[213] says, “A”

Ian[213] says, “10.8  1. Y   2. N”

Simon[213] says, “agree”

Simon[213] says, “agree “

Simon[213] says, “10.9?”

Simon[213] says, “i said yes to interact”

Ian[213] says, “agree”

Ian[213] says, “Moodle N/A”

Ian[213] says, “(not help!)”

Ian[213] says, “(er, meant No Help)”

Simon[213] says, “does moodle even have help ?:P”

Ian[213] says, “Nope!”

Omid says, “Moodle doesn’t have help”

Ian[213] says, “Omid you’re a legend.”

Ian[213] says, “Let’s assume 10.10-12 relate to the help.”

Ian[213] says, “(Which I’m pretty sure it does)”

Ian[213] says, “10.  Interact=Y  Moodle=N/A”

Ian[213] says, “2nd Try: 10.10  Interact=Y  Moodle=N/A”

Simon[213] says, “yep yep”

Ian[213] says, “10.11 same”

Ian[213] says, “10.12 same”

Ian[213] says, “(now we’re half way through)”

Simon[213] says, “agree”

Simon[213] says, “13 – 19 i had yes for interact”

Omid says, “13-19 could be yes for moodle”

Ian[213] says, “Ah, I suspect we should backtrack on 10.12.  I think Interact merits an N instead of a Y.”

Ian[213] says, “Because I find it isn’t solving my problems.  For example I read through it trying to figure out how to create my own Wiki page and its just not clear.”

Simon[213] says, “ahh”

Simon[213] says, “goo dpoint”

Ian[213] says, “So revising 10.12 to Interact=N  Moodle=N/A”

Simon[213] says, “kk”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, curious why you thing 13-19 should be Y for Moodle?”

Ian[213] says, “(meant thinK, not thing)”

Ian[213] listens to some funky ass Armin Van Buuren Simon[213] says, “i listen to him :P

Ian[213] says, “then you’ll also like or already listen to DJ Mode.”

Ian[213] says, “:)”

Simon[213] says, “Havnt heard him”

Simon[213] says, “ill dl err buy some”

Ian[213] says, “Trying Vuze P2P I believe it’s all ligit.”

Ian[213] says, “I was looking a 10.13 (+14 to 18) from perspective of the Help sitelet, but maybe it’s about the overall platform.  What do you guys think?”

Omid says, “do you disagree with moodle being yes for 13-19 Lan?”

Omid says, “19 is N/A sorry”

Ian[213] says, “19 agree”

Omid says, “you agree with 19?”

Ian[213] says, “I agree with “19 is N/A sorry”"

Omid says, “how about 13-18?”

Ian[213] says, “I think 13 is N for both Moodle and Interact because for example it doesn’t actually explain what a Blog, Wiki, etc etc is.  So I doubt if my Grandma could use it.”

Ian[213] says, “:)”

Omid says, “I reackon my grandma could figure it out”

Omid says, “If she has her reading glasses with her”

Omid says, “P”

Simon[213] says, “haha”

Ian[213] says, “So it WAS grandma who did POD task 3?”

Omid says, “who’s grandma?”

Omid says, “mines cooking at da moment”

Ian[213] says, “As Ali_G wud say “me Nan”.”

Omid says, “what did you get for 13-18?”

Omid says, “with moodle?”

Ian[213] says, “Not all students (e.g. agriculture, police faculties) would know what a wiki or blog is … so I really feel 13 is N.”

Simon[213] says, “i didnt look at moodle yet looking now”

Ian[213] says, “In this sense I don’t feel Interact or Moodle are as “Mature” as other examples of those functions (or the help/documentation) thereof.”

Ian[213] says, “Whadaysay now?  Downgrade 13 to an N for both Interact and Moodle.”

Ian[213] says, “I’d be concerned about glossing over.”

Ian[213] says, “Hopper might be using these finding to conduct serious recommendations.”

Ian[213] says, “”The students said the help was okay”"

Simon[213] says, “well he did seem pretty keen on getting this part done”

Ian[213] says, “So 13 is N  …. ?”

Simon[213] says, “well the information in the help section is relevant isnt it?”

Simon[213] says, “because isnt our part predominently looking in the actual help section rather thenthe site in general”

Omid says, “Can be relevant”

Omid says, “I mean you can chat through moodle if CSU interact doesn’t work”

Ian[213] says, “Maybe I’m being too harsh.  Okay, there is information there and some of it is useful.  But I’d like to include comment “Some areas need improvement”.”

Omid says, “Yep agree”

Ian[213] sold to the man in the WRX

Ian[213] says, “That is for Interact.  But Moodle still has no help/doco…”

Ian[213] says, “so that’s an “N” … agree?”

Ian[213] ?

Omid says, “moodle has no help/doco”

Omid says, “So sold Ian the big man”

Simon[213] says, “agree”

Simon[213] says, “i cant believe they have no online help in the software”

Omid says, “I reackon think the programmers need assistance”

Ian[213] says, “Are we perhaps missing something?”

Ian[213] says, “It just seems so … odd?”

Omid says, “what you mean sunshine?”

Simon[213] says, “thats really really weird”

Ian[213] says, “I like to smear myself in jam and then run around the house naked.”

Ian[213] says, “Oops, wrong online conversion!”

Simon[213] says, “and ian with his jam”

Omid says, “what kinda jam you got?”

Omid says, “I got scons bu no jam”

Ian[213] says, “Phew.  I was nearly worried about Simon being weirded out by help instead of Jam.  But Omid, Stawberry.”

Ian[213] says, “Sp 10.14-18  Interact=Y  Moodle = N.”

Simon[213] says, “rofl”

Simon[213] says, “done for 14 – 18″

Ian[213] says, “10.19 suggestions? “

Simon[213] says, “perhaps if someone can explain what it means :P

Ian[213] hmmmm, ian starts fantasies about scones …

Ian[213] says, “I say no for both. Anybody disagree?”

Ian[213] says, “I.e. I don;t see the Help changing depending on any changing context of system use.”

Simon[213] says, “ok when u put it that way”

Simon[213] says, “ya i agree”

Ian[213] says, “done”

Ian[213] says, “10.20?”

Simon[213] says, “do u want to type up the results ian and email em out and I can wiki them?”

Ian[213] says, “okay”

Ian[213] says, “GUess that’s the trouble with vitual birthday party in a text based environment.”

Ian[213] says, “Good party though, I had a great time.

Simon[213] says, “it all tastes the same?”

Simon[213] says, “like monitor :p”

Ian[213] says, “Hence the jam”

Simon[213] says, “ok we done?”

Simon[213] says, “ill get this done at work tomorrow and mail you all the link”

Ian[213] says, “Nice one Simon!”

Ian[213] says, “That’s a HUGE task out the way.”

Omid says, “Your so fly simon”

Simon[213] says, “for a white guy?”

Simon[213] says, “bad bad song”

Omid says, “hahahahaaha”

Ian[213] … adding some mango now.

Simon[213] says, “ok we betteer let ian get back to SL”

Ian[213] says, “Before we break off …”

Ian[213] says, “Task 3:”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, I see you dumped your essay into the overall WIKI page.”

Ian[213] says, “That’s probably not the best place for it.”

Ian[213] says, “Other groups shoved theirs in a seperate page and made a link to it.”

Omid says, “I just wanted to be different from others”

Simon[213] says, “haha”

Ian[213] says, “Than try some jam sometime.”

Omid says, “haha put some clothes on”

Simon[213] says, “guess thoes lessons paid off :P

Ian[213] Ian pants as he rushes to start recorder …

Simon[213] says, “looks like were the only ones”

Ian[213] says, “Sadly, I’m following my hand written notes … It’s really not ‘intuitive’ huh!”

Ian[213] says, “Look like!”

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] chuckles

Ian[213] says, “Could be worse!”

Simon[213] says, “indeed it could”

Ian[213] says, “Hey, did you start your OLR yet?”

Simon[213] says, “ya but only in word”

Simon[213] says, “havnt put them online yet”

Simon[213] says, “the topics 1-5?”

Ian[213] says, “I started in word too, but finding it hard to stay organised.”

Simon[213] says, “ya same”

Ian[213] says, “I started my OLR at the weekend.”

Simon[213] says, “i find this is a bit hard to keep up with :P

Simon[213] says, “used to text books and stuff”

Ian[213] says, “Me too, I feel like it’s all over the place … but then, that’s the way websites are I suppose.”

Simon[213] says, “ya true”

Ian[213] says, “You gave me a good idea though.”

Simon[213] says, “oh no”

Ian[213] says, “Within OLR include a page of useful links”

Ian[213] says, “… to all the various sites”

Simon[213] says, “ya that would be good”

Simon[213] says, “well firstly whens this due?”

Simon[213] says, “let me find my calendar”

Simon[213] says, “14th sound right?”

Ian[213] says, “I’m not sure what our 1st POD activity is … I’m just having a rummage through my notes …”

Ian[213] says, “Assignment 1 is due on 14th I believe”

Simon[213] says, “ya the rest is due with assignment 1″

Simon[213] says, “I think we should spend the next cpl days writing up our findings for 1 and 2. and email them to each other”

Simon[213] says, “then have another meeting after or before class on thursday?”

Ian[213] says, “1 Sounds good.  What is task 1 all about?”

Simon[213] says, “that was investigate moodle and interact”

Simon[213] says, “its on —>”

Simon[213] says, “the notes still in the room”

Simon[213] says, “its fairly straight forward”

Simon[213] says, “we just need to get our thoughts together and compile them”

Ian[213] says, “Ah! Yes, that was it. (Rummaging wasn’t much use)”

Simon[213] says, “:P”

Simon[213] says, “so how about we aim to do tast 1 and 2 by thursday and email em to each other before class”

Simon[213] says, “then stay back after it for a bit and go through em”

Simon[213] says, “we got to see most of pod task 2 last lesson”

Ian[213] says, “Sure.  Hey, I’ve just reading the tasks, I see ..”

Ian[213] says, “tasks 2 and 3, but can’t see 1.”

Simon[213] says, “I can only see pod task 1 and pod task 2″

Simon[213] says, “POD group work exercises 1 and 2 10%”

Ian[213] says, “I found it. So many differnt browsers open, and different forums/messages … jeez.”

Simon[213] says, “lol ya”

Simon[213] says, “i have so many bookmarks for this subject i had to make its own folder”

Ian[213] says, “Alrighty, I think I’m “with it” again now …”

Simon[213] says, “hehehe”

Ian[213] says, “So starting at the …”

Simon[213] says, “ya it took me a cpl of reads to get my head around it”

Ian[213] says, “… beginning, POD task 1, maybe we can knock that over tonite?”

Simon[213] says, “sure”

Ian[213] says, “I quickly read through …”

Ian[213] says, “the task and I recall having done all this already.”

Simon[213] says, “ya we did a good bit of it in class”

Simon[213] says, “for both of them”

Ian[213] says, “I put my notes on my OLR … I just go get them, and paste ‘em here, and maybe we can discuss …”

Ian[213] says, “Coming through shortly:”

Simon[213] says, “sure”

Ian[213] says, “Tonights ITC213 MOO session (30 Aug 07) involved 5 participants, and we compared chat capabilities of MOO and Moddle.  My notes were: MOO uses frames and the GUI is very character-based so pretty clunky to use. Requires a modicum of effort to learn how to use, but is fast to use once the learning curve is over. Internet Exlporer doesnt run the required JAVA applet which can cause some frustrations. Moodle has a modern web GUI so is easier to use. However it is somwhat slower to post chat messages/replies.  Lack of recorder means remembering to copy/paste conversations where thats required, and this presents a risk that the conversations could be lost if the browser dies or is accidentally closed. Time stamp against each chat message is useful in seeing the interaction, especially if several people are talking at once (i.e. in the same minute). No ability to whisper/page an individual is sorely missed in larger groups. Little emoting capabilty other than the u!

se of character based smileys which get converted to smiley images. Beeping another user or self is available – means of getting attention.”

Ian[213] says, “(choke on that!)”

Simon[213] says, “thats for pod task 2?”

Ian[213] Ah!  Whereas task 1 is Moodle vs Sakai Interact?

Simon[213] says, “ya thats pod 1″

Simon[213] says, “Did you want to review them again and email each other the notes tomorrow?”

Simon[213] says, “as i think that one was a cpl of weeks ago”

Ian[213] says, “Ya!”

Simon[213] says, “let me get your email address again”

Simon[213] says, “so i can create a rule for it incase outlooks spam filter nabs it”

Ian[213] ian has demmanding baby screaming for attention … might be a bit distracted now and then …

Simon[213] says, “mines simonj@coastalitsolutions.com.au

Simon[213] says, “well thats why i figure we can work on it and email each other the notes damn rl :P

Ian[213] says, “Ah-ha! Lets do that then …”

Ian[213] says, “Mine should come through tonite!”

Simon[213] says, “ya i will work on mine tonight too”

Simon[213] says, “that way i can read over them at work tomorrow”

Simon[213] says, “while im um err >.> working”

Ian[213] says, “Yeah, I’m gonna get started now and will probably be online for a while …”

Simon[213] (asleep) has disconnected.

Simon[213] has connected.

Simon[213] says, “i think i got disconnected”

Ian[213] welcome back!

Ian[213] says, “I’m gonna get started now and will probably be online for a while …”

Simon[213] says, “stupid isp did its daily relog”

Simon[213] says, “whats your email again Ian?”

Ian[213] baby is usually well behaved, but playing up rotten tonite – nothing a TeleTubbies DVD can’t sort out though ;) Ian[213] ijdonaldson@gmail.com Simon[213] says, “except that would make any sane person homocidal”

Simon[213] says, “ok cool”

Simon[213] says, “did u get mine?”

Ian[213] … just sent you an email :)

Simon[213] says, “let me check so i can setup an outlook rule so it dosnt get spammed”

Ian[213] (hopefully I don’t get tinkiwinki mixed up with sakai and so on) Simon[213] says, “lol”

Simon[213] says, “ok got it and replied :P

Simon[213] says, “stupid junk mail filters “

Ian[213] I’ve got mail!

Simon[213] says, “Nice”

Ian[213] says, “Jee I’m frustrated, every site I’m interacting with requires a different username and password.  That’s because for example: they have different stipulations about password strenth and length”

Simon[213] says, “yeah it gets confusing”

Simon[213] says, “you should see some of the ones we have at work”

Ian[213] says, “I’m writting out my cheat sheet of site, usernames and password again … but that kind of undermines some of the fundamentals of “security”.”

Simon[213] says, “you can get some good software that encrypts the stuff so it makes it safer to store”

Ian[213] says, “At work I’m used to frequent changes of strong password, but have formulated my own way of dealing with it. At least we have predominately “signle sign on” achieved…”

Ian[213] says, “I have that software …”

Ian[213] says, “but it’s a bit of pain to constantly have to refer to it.”

Ian[213] says, “I guess I want all the security for no inconvenience!”

Ian[213] says, “:)”

Simon[213] says, “biometrics! take your ID anywhere. till someone cuts off your finger”

Simon[213] says, “brb”

Ian[213] says, “Observation: I don’t see any of the other POD reporting on their progress within the POD forum …”

Ian[213] says, “I wonder why …”

Simon[213] says, “Perhaps their waiting till the due date to post”

Simon[213] says, “so that people dont copy etc”

Ian[213] says, “You there?  I’m logged into the sakai interact site, testing the ‘Chat’ function if you wanna interact and see what it can/can’t do.”

Simon[213] says, “sec leme bring it up”

Ian[213] copy, hmmm, cunning …

Hopper says, “read it while I grab a snack…and ponder on how to do it…”

Bron[213] [to Ross]: did you read task 3, I didn’t think the blogs and wikis could be modified?

Simon[213] says, “i could only add comments when I changed and modify the main page.”

Ross says, “I think you can edit “public blogs” but wiki I know very little about”

Bron[213] says, “maybe the students ability to modify will be upgraded”

Bron[213] says, “I use wikis for work and once you are an author/writer you can add/modify etc.”

Hopper listens and hope for more…

Ross says, “perhaps we simply append to what already exists, I think this can be done”

Bron[213] says, “well if it is a ’sandbox’ we will need to be able to do more”

Ross [to Bron[213]]: does your experience mean you will ead our POD on this one….lol Bron[213]  smiles Ross says, “ead = lead”

Bron[213] says, “defn. give it a go”

Hopper grins.

Ross says, “there’s wiki in both “sandbox” and “moodle” do you think this adds to the confusion a little?”

Ian[213] says, “Hi Hopper: I have Omid ON MSN saying he’s in MOO but can see/connect to Bulga Fern Gully.  Was OKAY at Uni had this problem when at home during the week too …”

Ian[213] says, “(meant Can’t)”

Bron[213] [to Ian[213]]: I had the same problem as Omid earlier today…Java applets were failing DavidW[213] arrives from LC_MOO Welcome Lobby Simon[213] says, “get him to try updating java from www.java.com

Ross says, “it can be blocked by firewalls…”

Bron[213] says, “my thoughts too simon..also what about security settings does that affect it?”

Bron[213] says, “ok”

Hopper says, “in MOODLE you can access your profile by clicking on your username among other things.”

Ross says, “do we use both or decide as a POD group”

Hopper says, “you can not only edit your profile, but see and make forum posts and blog entries… versatile.”

Hopper says, “Have you all used blogs before?”

Simon[213] says, “To some degree I have.”

Bron[213] says, “yes..don’t have one but have added comments etc..to other peoples”

Ian[213] says, “(Sidenote: Thanks all for your tips TO Omid … I’ve passed them on).”

Ross says, “no not me…ever”

Rizwan[213] arrives.

Bron[213] [to Rizwan[213]]: hi

Bron[213] LOL

Hopper [to rizwan]: How much blog experiences have you?

Hopper sighs.

DavidW[213] says, “Hi, have I missed anything yet?”

Ross says, “Hi David, not a lot, Ken has posted POD task 3 and we are discussing this”

Rizwan[213] arrives.

Hopper says, “I know less about the Interact blogger or wiki as it is a sandxbox trial we are part… part am familiar with blogger.com… as you see in the POD task 3 extension work… and heaps of experience with CoreBLOG as I am a ZOPe fan.. to your delight/disgust.”

Hopper grins.

Ross chuckles

DavidW[213] says, “ta Ross”

Hopper [to DavidW[213]]: no you can read the log on LR2 later and now read POD task 3 note…. to do soon.

Rizwan[213] says, “hello everyone”

Ross says, “hi Rizwan[213]“

Ross says, “I am a bit slow ….LR2??”

Ian[213] ian belatedly answers …

Ian[213] says, “I have used blogs somewhat but consider myself novice.”

Bron[213] says, “log recorder with past years conversations”

Hopper says, “oops… I have a local problem… knock at door… back in a moment.”

Ian[213] turns out hopper doesn’t live in a burrow afterall! :) Bron[213] says, “with ass.1 is this separate to pod task 1,2,etc..??”

Ross smiles

Bron[213] says, “could be an up market burrow with a door?”

Ross says, “like Rabit in the 100 acre wood”

Ian[213] says, “True1″

Bron[213] smiles

Hopper is too busy laughing to offer a reply!

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] says, “Hey, Bron: my interpretation is that assign 1 comprises personal (OLR) and POD work.”

Hopper says, “yes I’m back”

Bron[213] [to Ian[213]]: ta..I thought as much Ross says, “and TOPIC exercises…..”

Bron[213] sigh

Ross says, “ditto”

Ian[213] says, “Hey, where are y’all posting your OLR entries?”

Hopper says, “so many to do …. aim to cover ALL topics and do 80%”

Ross [to Ian[213]]: in Zope

Hopper [to Ian[213]]: in a CoreBlog in ZOPE… or do we use the other tools?

Bron[213] says, “is there something I can do to not get bumped out of LC_Moo when I login to Moodle or Sakai?”

Hopper says, “previous studenst have asked to use their own blog tools… like blogger.com”

Ross says, “have wasted hours today building a cosmetically pleasing “web site”"

Hopper is open to suggestions as you take charge!

Ross says, “pen and paper”

Simon[213] says, “www.wordpress.com is another good one.

Bron[213] [to Ian[213]]: I haven’t posted mine yet…I’ve created word document yet to be posted Hopper cheers loudly.

Hopper reckons Ross agrees with Simon,

Ross says, “there are some many good tools…..please no more…lol”

Ian[213] says, “I found it hard to ‘relate’ to the CoreBlog so sought alternative and when I came across wordpress I fell deeply in love.”

Hopper says, “A blog is a blog … even s a Word doc… just get to me for assessement…”

Ian[213] says, “We have established a very good relationship and we meet daily.”

Bron[213] [to Hopper]: so we don’t neccessarily have to use zope for our OLRs? We could use www.blogger.com or wordpress?

Ian[213] says, “(I;m still talking about WordPress BTW)”

Hopper says, “my favourite quote is from Ross….”

Bron[213] [to Ian[213]]: too much time??

Bron[213] smiles

Hopper [to bron]: Yes you tell me where it is…. but send a page to EASTS giving the URL.

Ross says, “how romantic”

Hopper says, “I think we have ubtil 14 September… but if you need more time… put a case by e-mail.”

Ian[213] Hurray! Welcome Omid!!:)

Hopper recons this is a valuable log to read later on Log Recorder 2.

Bron[213] says, “Omid did you have to reload www.java?”

Omid says, “hey Ian”

Omid says, “I did but it didn’t work”"

Hopper wonders where was he?

Omid says, “I just updated my firefox”

Bron[213] says, “aahhh firewalls?”

Hopper groans.

Omid says, “I was using firefox 1.5″

Hopper agrees with Bron

Ross [to Hopper]: the interaction and comment certainly beat today’smornings session Omid says, “but updated to firefox 2″”

Omid says, “Do I need to record this session Hop?”

                            |______|

Hopper says, “if you came late…. read POD task 3 note… released today.”

Hopper passes the baton to Ian while he goes to fridge for a drink.

Omid says, “i’m just working on the 2nd pod”

Ian[213] ian coughs

Ross says, “Ahhh drinks sounds good”

Hopper says, “I’ll be back meanwhile Ian is running this class… BUT your turn may be next… after the break.”

Ian[213] says, “Yeah, Ian, over to you …”

Hopper loves to delegate.

Ian[213] says, “Holly! That IS me!”

Bron[213] says, “on youtube I found an instructional video on wikis it explained how they work clearly”

Omid says, “how far is my group with there pods?”

Ian[213] says, “So, class, can anybody state the fundamental difference between a Wiki and a Blog?”

Ross spills drink laughinmg

Simon[213] says, “the title!”

Bron[213] says, “one thing generally blogs belong to someone and wikis can have many authors/writers”

Hopper cheers loudly.

Ian[213] Hmmm, good, carry on …

Ian[213] Ian likes Bron’s thinking …

Simon[213] says, “Blog is like a personal diary where as a wiki is collaborative information pages”

Bron[213] says, “wikis are great for work groups…you can add agendas, minutes, etc..”

Ross [to Bron[213]]: if you could paste the link here to the youtube instructional video I’d e grateful Ian[213] Ian thinks Simon will go far …

Bron[213] [to Ross[213]]: I will have to dig around..I shall post it to the forum Ian[213] Good stuff class …

Ian[213] And with WIKI’s …

Ross [to Ian[213]]: you’re a natural

Ian[213] How is it that the Group manage to produce the final outcome?

Simon[213] says, “In what way?”

Bron[213] says, “it can be modified, edited by writers and viewers can comment”

Ian[213] says, “Group need to collaborate to produce the product … how do wiki’s facilitate that?”

Rizwan[213] says, “a blog is a online journal that allows the owner to post entries that are generally displayed in reverse chronological order and..”

Simon[213] says, “They allow multiple people to update and modify while allowing tacking of changes etc.”

Ian[213] says, “Ah, I see!”

Ian[213] says, “How else?”

Rizwan[213] says, “A wiki is a type of website that allows multiple users to collaboratively create and edit pages”

Ian[213] says, “We’re supposed to review and disucss the final versio(submission) version.”

Simon[213] says, “The stuff i emailed was for pod 1. You each need to do the same so we can collate them into a single submission. Pod 2 we had arranged to do tomorrow at 8pm”

Omid says, “pod 2 sure tomorrow night at 8pm”

Simon[213] says, “Did you want to forward it to him Ian?”

Ian[213] says, “I didn’t see any of these things in second life …”

Omid says, “You serious? respect now man lol”

Simon[213] says, “Isnt seecond life just full of adverts and pron?”

Simon[213] says, “kinda like the real world :p”

Ian[213] says, “The free trial seemed quite bland of that”

Ian[213] says, “But I did speak a girl, which turned out to be a boy …”

Ian[213] says, “Hmmmm.”

Simon[213] says, “Welcome to the internet”

Ian[213] says, “Alright … next task:”

Ian[213] says, “5 min chat in Interact regarding Nucliear power in Australia … agreed?”

Omid says, “Ian remember how I couldn’t log into interact?”

Simon[213] says, “yep thats what we need”

Simon[213] says, “looks like the other group is in there”

Simon[213] says, “or not”

Simon[213] says, “seems to keep old logs”

Ian[213] ‘pirates are as pirates do’

Ian[213] says, “Seems Omid can’t get into Interact: …”

Ian[213] says, “get’s ALERT invalid login …”

Simon[213] says, “has he logged into my.csu.edu.au first?”

Omid says, “Yeah I did”

Simon[213] says, “weird”

Ian[213] Omid tries alternatives, Ian holds breath …

Ian[213] ian turning blue …

Omid says, “whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy this”

Ian[213] exhales

Omid says, “Guys you go ahead”

Omid says, “I got to explain to ken”

Omid says, “Hopper won’t be avaliable for now “

Omid says, “So I don’t think I can submit the second pod”

Omid says, “I’ve tryed everything with interact still nothing”

Simon[213] says, “well you could BUT”

Simon[213] says, “explain your reasons for not participating”

Simon[213] says, “and explain how this can be a hurdle to CSCW”

Simon[213] says, “ken will love it”

Omid says, “thanks simon I’ll take aboard your idea”

Omid says, “how much is pod 2 related to interact?”

Simon[213] says, “this feels like the sorta subject where u take the negatives and use them to your advantage”

Simon[213] says, “half of it”

Simon[213] says, “first part was moodle”

Omid says, “How about I do the other half “

Omid says, “then explain to ken why I couldn’t complete the other half using interact?”

Omid says, “what you think?”

Simon[213] says, “pod 2 is pretty much just a copy and past of the log”

Simon[213] says, “but in your pod notes put in your reasons and how it impeeded cscw”

Omid says, “Ok simon I’ll do it that way”

Omid says, “I don’t want to hold you guys behind”

Omid says, “You guys go ahead with interact”

Simon[213] says, “its cool”

Omid says, “I’m so sorry about this guys”

Omid says, “Really am”

Ian[213] says, “We’re having a great, chat …”

Ian[213] says, “Is there a line you’d like me to put in on your behalf?”

Omid says, “Thanks man for the thought”

Omid says, “It’s your call”

Omid says, “If you could that would be great”

Ian[213] says, “So nuclear power in aus, you for or against it?”

Omid says, “Aganist”

Ian[213] says, “your comment has been posted!”

Omid says, “Do we have to state our reason?”

Omid says, “Or was that responce gud enough”

Ian[213] ian and simon head back to moo …

Omid leaves.

Simon[213] says, “back”

Ian[213] says, “Where’d omid go?”

Omid comes into the cafe and sits down.

Omid says, “Back”

Ian[213] says, “Ah-harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!”

Omid says, “Do we have to state our reason for nuclear power?”

Omid [to back]: up our responce?

Simon[213] says, “Its more just a use of the chat i think”

Omid says, “Yea I know”

Ian[213] ian concurs with simon

Omid says, “You doing it all through interact?”

Ian[213] says, “Done”

Ian[213] says, “So, next tasks:”

Ian[213] says, “POD task 1 and POD task 2″

Ian[213] says, “Simon you okay to compile the report for POD task 2?”

Simon[213] says, “yeah. correct me if im wrong but its basically just a posting of the logs correct?”

Ian[213] meantime, Ian posts the group name to the cscw sub-forum Ian[213] says, “Er, my understanding the logs are to get posted you your OLR …”

Simon[213] says, “ya”

Simon[213] says, “but pod task 2 is post the logs to the forum and ppl make comments?”

Ian[213] says, “Sorry, correction:”

Ian[213] says, “5. The recorder posts a copy of both discussions as a single posting to the CSU PODs sub-forum, while each member adds their reflective comment to their OLR. You may want to also use the blog tools at each site to post the entries as a pre-cursor experience to POD task 3 on testing blog and wiki tools.”

Simon[213] says, “which olrs are needed for the assignment?”

Ian[213] says, “Assignment 1 states the answers for topics 1-5 should be in OLR.”

Simon[213] says, “kool”

Ian[213] says, “So, yes, you’re right …”

Simon[213] says, “for pod 2?”

Ian[213] says, “Post the dialogue to POD, and then we can all put our reflective comments against it…”

Ian[213] says, “Then the instructions says: Each POD group should collate each report into a single POD group report.”

Simon[213] says, “do you each want to email me your thoughts on the 2 chats”

Simon[213] says, “and I will collate them?”

Ian[213] says, “I put a bunch of those observation in the log itself whilst in progress.  I..e last session: there are about 5 straight lines.”

Simon[213] says, “let me amke sure i have them”

Ian[213] says, “I’ll dig some more out now also.”

Simon[213] says, “i think i have them”

Ian[213] (asleep) has disconnected.

Simon[213] says, “any thoughts?”

The housekeeper arrives to cart Ian[213] off to bed.

Ian[213] comes into the cafe and sits down.

Ian[213] ian returns after browser flaked out@ Simon[213] says, “wb”

Simon[213] says, “i hate that”

Ian[213] says, “Hey … I’m just about to post our group name to the forum okay?”

Simon[213] says, “sounds good”

Ian[213] says, “There it goes!!!!!”

Ian[213] says, “It’s out in the wild now!!!!”

Ian[213] says, “okay, next.”

Ian[213] says, “Simon you okay with POD task 1?”

Ian[213] says, “Need anything?”

Simon[213] says, “yep just been reading through it looks good”

Ian[213] says, “All my comments are pretty much summed up in the logs, I’ll add more as comments to the forum”

Ian[213] says, “Omid you still there?”

Omid says, “Yeah”

Simon[213] says, “think hes polishing the valve caps on his rex :p”

Omid says, “lol”

Omid says, “smart ass”

Simon[213] says, “;)”

Ian[213] says, “You guys got the email and attachment regarding POD task 1?”

Ian[213] says, “(I sent last night)”

Simon[213] says, “the one from last night?”

Simon[213] says, “ya”

Ian[213] says, “You get it Omid?”

Ian[213] leave hubcaps alone dude!

Omid says, “Yeah I got it”

Ian[213] So what do you think?  Is it suitable for submission?

Ian[213] ian is overwhelmed by the feedback :) Ian[213] says, “”Record your findings as entries in your own OLR report your MOODLE and CSU Interact findings to your POD group”"

Ian[213] says, “”Each POD group should collate each report into a single POD group report.”"

Ian[213] says, “This is what the document is, right?”

Simon[213] says, “yeah thats the report to submit”

Simon[213] says, “let me flick through again a sec”

Simon[213] says, “hmm one suggestion”

Ian[213] please

Simon[213] says, “perhaps a summary explaining our findings a bit”

Simon[213] says, “rather then just a table”

Simon[213] says, “maybe steal a quote from moodle.org to cite”

Ian[213] says, “I.e. stating the POD sessions and online discussion held?”

Simon[213] says, “nah explaining the pros and cons of the sites”

Simon[213] says, “like we found xyz to be more conductive to groupwork due to lmnop”

Simon[213] says, “as stated by moodle.org their aim is to “make life easier”"

Simon[213] says, “or something like that”

Ian[213] says, “Sure …”

Omid says, ” so like you want us to explain about each site we have visited”

Omid says, “stating the pro and con’s?”

Ian[213] says, “Let me be sure, which do you guys actually prefer?”

Ian[213] says, “interact or moodle?”

Simon[213] says, “personally”

Simon[213] says, “i prefer interact”

Ian[213] says, “Funny! Me too!”

Simon[213] says, “seems to have a cleaner layout and functionality”

Omid says, “I haven’t used interact yet :(

Simon[213] says, “Omid prefers moodle coz it works”

Simon[213] says, “:P”

Omid says, “So I got to agree with moodle”

Omid says, “simon must say your calls are gud tonight”

Ian[213] omid you abstain

Omid says, “I rest my case”

Ian[213] How does a guy get a drink around here?

Simon[213] says, “I try and ligthen the mood in darker times :P

Omid says, “lol you should try that as a pick up line”

Omid says, “next tym your out lol”

Simon[213] says, “haha”

Ian[213] says, “okay, so I’ll knock up a summary, and then post it to the forum”

Ian[213] says, “it’s not the best, but probably enough to get us over the line …”

Ian[213] says, “and probably as far as we’re goonnna be able to take it in the time available”

Ian[213] says, “unless there is any other feedback?”

Ian[213] says, “Omid?”

Ian[213] says, “What do you think of the report?”

Simon[213] says, “Is it just me or do you guys find this course a bit hard to follow? Ive been so use to the ridgid structure of other classes”

Ian[213] nods head violently

Ian[213] says, “But I’m also finding that interesting and fun …”

Simon[213] says, “yeah its growing on me”

Omid says, “It’s gud”

Simon[213] says, “Kinda like a big exploration”

Ian[213] says, “It’s kinda like “realworld”"

Omid says, “Just disappointed interact didn’t work for me”

Ian[213] says, “I.e. at work I face this alot”

Simon[213] says, “What you do for work?”

Ian[213] says, “Media company”

Ian[213] says, “Do you want me to email to y’all or just post to the forum?”

Omid says, “If you can do both”

Simon[213] says, “both”

Simon[213] says, “you can edit posts cant u?”

Omid says, “If theres anything missing we can add more 2 it”

Ian[213] says, “no editing of posts”

Ian[213] says, “(once posted that’s it)”

Simon[213] says, “how about email it”

Ian[213] says, “I’ll send another email, feel free to change and send back , copying all.”

Simon[213] says, “we can read it tomorrow”

Simon[213] says, “then post”

Ian[213] says, “agrred”

Omid says, “Agree”

Ian[213] waves farewell!

Omid says, “Do we need to organise another tym?”

Simon[213] says, “whens it due?”

Simon[213] says, “friday?”

Omid (asleep) has disconnected.

Ian[213] says, “Shall we do a Thurday 8pm?  30mins just to check/finalise everything?”

Simon[213] says, “yeah thats what i was thinking”

Simon[213] says, “just to clarify anything etc”

Simon[213] says, “did you both want to mail me some comments about chat too?”

Ian[213] says, “Omid says he’ll join us thursday”

Simon[213] says, “sounds good”

Simon[213] says, “get him to email me some chat comments for pod 2″

Simon[213] says, “ill compile them and send em out”

Ian[213] says, “POD task 2 said something about putting the OLR in the sub-forum and putting comments against it … but I think that stuff was optional?”

Simon[213] says, “im not sure”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, assume you still have no access to Interact and heard nothing from Ken?”

Simon[213] says, “im kinda including the comments in in”

Omid says, “Yeah he sent me an email before saying he will be away for few days”

Omid says, “So there wasn’t much option left”

Ian[213] says, “I suggest we can avoid the part about making comments in the sub-forum.  Afterall, we do that all the time so I think we “got” that learning exercise already :)

Ian[213] says, “How’d you guys go with the essay?”

Simon[213] says, “still struggling with olrs”

Simon[213] says, “theres to many of them!”

Ian[213] says, “What do you mean?”

Omid says, “I’m still in the process of them”

Omid says, “Alot of work required”

Simon[213] says, “how you going with yours?”

Ian[213] says, “I found the OLRs quite quick.  I just compiled the logs into a single word doc (copy/paste) and then upload to blog entry.   Isn’t that all that’s required?”

Ian[213] says, “(with the OLR)?”

Simon[213] says, “nah the topic 1-5 olrs are a pain”

Simon[213] says, “think thats all you need for meetings olrs”

Ian[213] says, “Oh! Yes, doing the topic exercises … yah, I blew all of last weekend on that!”

Simon[213] says, “mental note after the break do em each week”

Simon[213] says, “:/”

Ian[213] says, “Beware the essay … bit of effort in that.”

Ian[213] says, “So. Back to the POD work:”

Ian[213] says, “Essential task 1 will be submitted/complete sometime tommorrow.”

Ian[213] says, “Watch the POD sub forum for its arrival”

Ian[213] says, “Simon, you’re also good to submit POD task 2 to the sub-forum today/tommorrow?”

Ian[213] says, “Omid, I guess this means you volunteer to do POD task 3?”

Ian[213] sips at drink …

Simon[213] says, “for next assignment?”

Ian[213] Ye

Ian[213] (Yes)

Ian[213] says, “I.e. plenty of time to get ready :)

Simon[213] says, “ok i just emailed you guys pod task 2″

Simon[213] says, “leme know what you think”

Ian[213] says, “Simon and I can then “draw straws” on who does task 4.”

Simon[213] says, “or do half each”

Ian[213] says, “Hey! Like … collaborate?”

Ian[213] ian reads email

Omid says, “Yep task 3 I can do”

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Omid says, “But I can’t work on it this stage”

Simon[213] says, “I basically just popped in what you wrote and added a few”

Simon[213] says, “we all thinking along the same lines”

Ian[213] says, “Looks good to me!”

Ian[213] says, “Where’s Omids stuff?”

Simon[213] says, “i didnt see an email from him”

Simon[213] says, “did you send one Omid?”

Omid says, “I’ll send it now”

Omid says, “for Pod 2 right?”

Simon[213] says, “ya”

Omid says, “It wasn’t much I mean I couldn’t use interact”

Simon[213] says, “just add that to your thoughts”

Simon[213] says, “Ok resent version 2 with Omids input”

Simon[213] says, “let me know what you think. I tried to turn his situation to our advantage”

Ian[213] says, “Even better!”

Ian[213] says, “It does demostrate the problem with synchronous comms!”

Simon[213] says, “yeah”

Simon[213] says, “Hopefully Ken will like it”

Ian[213] says, “I suspect the point of all of this is to get realworld experience of the difficultly of sunchronous comms, rather than the exercises themselves.”

Simon[213] says, “and to get us to use the tools”

Simon[213] says, “and actually interact as a group using them”

Ian[213] says, “yeah”

Ian[213] says, “Did we ever hear from the 4th person?”

Simon[213] says, “dont think so”

Ian[213] says, “They’re an Internal, Omid, you haven’t run anybody down in the WRX again lately have you?”

Ian[213])

Ian[213] 8)

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Omid says, “lol I think I flew by you”

Ian[213] says, “Hey. I suspect I’m gonna be “time poor” friday … so I’ll post the task 1 report tonight.”

Simon[213] says, “ok kool”

Omid says, “Hey guys I’ll be back”

Ian[213] Omid heads off to the station

Omid says, “Just got to take my sister down”

Ian[213] says, “Drive Safely”

Omid says, “thanks will do”

Omid (asleep) has disconnected.

Simon[213] says, “:/”

Simon[213] says, “good news is pod and exercises is worth more then the essay lol”

The housekeeper arrives to cart Omid off to bed.

Ian[213] says, “Although I suspect the essay is re-used in part of the next assignment”

Ian[213] says, “… Wiki”

Ian[213] says, “”Using your essay on social computing developers from assignment 1, use the wiki tool at the MOODLE and Interact sites to build and edit a larger group essay on the same topic in each wiki.”"

Ian[213] says, “:)”

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Simon[213] says, “so what do you think of pod 2?”

Simon[213] says, “should be enough to meet the requirements?”

Ian[213] says, “I think its exactly what the tasks asks for.  Looks good.”

Simon[213] says, “2 down”

Ian[213] says, “I suspect 3 and 4 are somewhat deeper in substance, but easier to attend to if done via Wiki/Blog.”

Simon[213] says, “yeah so not necesserly in real time”

Simon[213] says, “helps with scheduling more :P

Ian[213] says, “I guess it must be frustrating for Omid … he’s taking it quite well.

Simon[213] says, “Not getting into interact?”

Ian[213] says, “No. Driving a WRX :)

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] says, “(yes Interact)”

Simon[213] says, “he seems pretty layed back about it”

Ian[213] says, “This is why it’ll be good for him to start on Task 3 soonest.”

Simon[213] says, “ya”

Simon[213] says, “I really need to get more organised for the 2nd half”

Simon[213] says, “works killing me”

Simon[213] says, “real work not this course :p”

Ian[213] says, “I spent a whole night printing the topics and POD tasks and the reading, for some reason I have to work off a hard copy.  It’s made a huge difference.  I open it and recall exactly where I’m upto.”

Simon[213] says, “Yeah i find the same. Personally I prefer to read off paper still or my laptop”

Simon[213] says, “rather then off my screen”

Simon[213] says, “on the desktop”

Simon[213] says, “This wordpress.com has made the OLR’s much easier”

Simon[213] says, “I hated zope”

Ian[213] says, “Yah, within 2-3 mins in zope and I wasn’t in a good place.  First impressions do matter it seems :)

Ian[213] says, “Hey I just added another comment to the report 1 about moode: Good blog capabilities, with full WYIWG markup buttons.”

Ian[213] says, “Entries can still be re-edited upto 30mins after being posted then get locked-in”

Simon[213] says, “nice niec”

Simon[213] says, “good find”

Ian[213] says, “I think I found a bug in moodle.  I uploaded an avatar image but can’t change it”

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] says, “It’s a picture of me .. in the style of “Han Solo frozen in carbonite” … looks like I truly am! :)

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Simon[213] says, “Wheres he driving to?”

Simon[213] says, “sydney?”

Ian[213] says, “Hmmm, with Omid he could have even meant “Space Station” :)

Simon[213] says, “haha”

Simon[213] says, “hes probably picking up women in the wrx while were sitting here doing this”

Ian[213] hearty laugh

Ian[213] says, “Disapointment, I havn’t found a bug in Moodle, instead it’s just caching throwing up the old cached image.  Nothing a ctrl/f5 wouldn’t solve :(

Simon[213] says, “bah”

Simon[213] says, “supprised its cached”

Simon[213] says, “isnt it all dbase driven?”

Ian[213] says, “Probably browser control, but you’d think it should check the date of the image on the server is more recent than the cache it should replace it.”

Simon[213] says, “yeah”

Ian[213] says, “… But if the image IS in a DB like you say, that might explain it because it may not present the date revised in the required way for browser cache mgmt to occur.”

Simon[213] says, “on a completly unrelated but hillarious note”

Simon[213] says, “is this what they did before mmorpgs? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpmvFK02jY8

Ian[213] ian watches with interest (thinks: where can he join) Simon[213] says, “lol”

Simon[213] says, “i saw that years ago and just found it on my hdd”

Simon[213] says, “so i sent the youtube link around work”

Ian[213] come now … we know you’re the guy in green mask and tights :) Simon[213] says, “im the guy screaming lightning bolt”

Simon[213] says, “i dont think hes coming back”

Ian[213] ian returns …

Simon[213] says, “lol”

Ian[213] (asleep) has disconnected.
